“Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate” Catechism of the Catholic Church, para. 1536.
Jesus himself is the Great High Priest (Heb. 4:14-16) who instituted the sacraments for our salvation. Priests and deacons administer the sacraments, preach the Word, and provide pastoral care to the people of God as an extension of the ministry of the bishop.
God calls some men to the priesthood and diaconate. We describe this calling as a vocation which should be prayerfully discerned. Do you feel called?
