The Diocese of Joliet has been celebrating the Season of Creation during the month of September. The Season of Creation is an annual Christian observance of caring for creation. It is a time to celebrate and renew our commitment to the Creator and the stewardship of His creation. This Season of Creation has a particular significance because our Holy Father has named this year Laudato Si’ Year, as we continue to celebrate the five- year anniversary of his encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. The Season of Creation started on September 1st, the International Day of Prayer for Creation and will end on October 4th, 2020, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.
In the Diocese of Joliet, we started the Season of Creation with a prayer service on September 1st, 2020 at Lewis University with Bishop Pates and young adults from the diocese. You can find a recording of that service at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCHz6twfmZE We will complete the Season of Creation the week of September 28 – October 4, 2020. The Diocese of Joliet’s Laudato Si’ Ministries will have a two- part series, in Spanish, about environmental and human health. They will post two informational videos, one on recycling and one on the effects of lead pipes on children’s health. Those videos will be available at: http://www.dioceseofjoliet.org/seasonsofcreation on October 2nd, 2020.
