This Weekend: St. James Food Drive for the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry: Saturday, August 15th at Door 10 from 9:00 A.M. to 12 Noon
August is one of two months each year that St. James the Apostle helps support the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry through donations. This year, since we are unable to collect goods in the narthex of church, we will be having a one time drive up Food Drive on Saturday, August 15th at Door 10 in the Ministry Center parking lot from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon.
We ask you to please support this food collection by dropping off your food donations at Door 10 during those hours. If you prefer, you can support the food pantry with a monetary donation instead of food (make checks payable to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry). For your convenience a donation jar will be located on the table near Door 10.
They have provided for us an updated list of the most desired items:
- Pancake Syrup/Boxed Pancake Mix
- Canned Pineapple
- Canned Chili
- Canned Mixed Vegetables
- Boxed Flavored Rice/Pasta
- Crackers
- Flour/Sugar
- Ketchup/Mustard
- Tea Bags
- Paper Towels
Experiencing food insecurity? The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry is here to help during the COVID-19 virus pandemic. As many people are losing work hours and income, the food pantry is experiencing more demand for our services. We are doing our best to serve everyone as quickly and efficiently as possible. We have instituted a no-contact process for food distribution. Call 630-469-8668 for more information.
The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry staff and board members are grateful for the ongoing support received from St. James.
Let Us Pray for Mike Fitzpatrick as He Prepares to Be Ordained a Deacon on Saturday, August 22nd
After years and years of studies and preparation, St. James Parishioner Mike Fitzpatrick is counting down the days to his ordination as a Deacon at the Cathedral of St. Raymond on Saturday, August 22nd at 11 A.M. Although attendance is limited, the ordination will be live streamed. More information is to follow.
Mike and his wife Dawn have been actively involved in serving the parish for years. They currently head up the Christmas Basket Program, the Marriage Preparation Ministry and Mike has led the RCIA Program for the past two years.
As a deacon, Mike will continue his previous ministries, as well as serve on the altar at Mass, celebrate Baptisms and Weddings and other duties as assigned by Fr. David.
We invite all parishioners to join in prayer for Mike and Dawn as the day of his ordination grows near.
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saturday, August 15th
The Holy Day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is on Saturday, August 15th. Even before the dispensation to attend Mass was given due to the pandemic, in years when this celebration falls on a Saturday, the obligation to attend is also removed. This year, due to our present circumstances, Fr. David will be celebrating a private Mass on the Assumption and will remember us in his prayers.
