Deacon Shaun Cieslik, our former St. James seminarian intern, will be ordained a priest for the Diocese of Joliet on Saturday, May 21st at 11:00 a.m. The following day on Sunday, May 22nd at 11:30 a.m. he will celebrate his first Mass at his home parish, St. John the Baptist in Winfield. He and his family extend an invitation to all parishioners of St. James the Apostle to both celebrations.

During Deacon Shaun’s assignment with us he was affectionately given the nickname “Señor Shaun” by the school children of St. James because he sat alongside them in their Spanish classes, in order to learn the language too. He is also a devout Cubs fan who never wavered in his devotion. Even though his intern director, Fr. John Ouper was equal in his devotion to the White Sox, Shaun was fearless and went so far as to display a Cubs doormat in front of his room in the rectory, located across the hall from Fr. John’s room. Shaun loved his time at St. James and is grateful to the people here who supported him on his journey of formation for the priesthood.
